A patchy, uneven or worn-out lawn can make the whole garden feel tired. Fresh turf gives the space a new starting point, but a lasting result depends on what happens before the rolls go down. We consider the existing surface, soil condition, light and the way the garden is used before recommending the next steps.
Preparation may involve removing the old lawn and unwanted growth, clearing debris, improving the surface and levelling the area. The amount of work depends on the ground we find; new turf alone will not solve an underlying drainage or heavy-shade problem. We discuss those limitations with you and agree the preparation needed rather than treating every garden in the same way.
Once the ground is ready, the turf is laid with close joins and neatly finished edges. We explain how to water it, when to keep foot traffic off it and how to approach the first cut as it establishes. Sometimes the most useful first step is to clear the excess growth, see what is underneath and decide which features are worth keeping. Our team can help you reclaim the space in manageable stages, from a one-off clearance to a wider programme of repairs and restoration.
We begin by discussing what you want to keep, what needs removing and how you would like to use the garden afterwards. Depending on the agreed scope, clearance can include cutting back overgrowth, removing weeds and brambles, and gathering green waste. Access, the volume of material and the arrangements for taking waste away are agreed before the job. Please flag any unknown waste or hidden obstacles so these can be assessed separately.
With the space opened up, we can look more clearly at damaged fencing, tired decking and other garden features included in the project. We discuss what may be repaired, what needs replacing and which improvements are most useful first. You can choose a simple tidy-up, prepare the ground for a new lawn or combine several jobs.
